Defining interpersonal relationships | What the Warm Part of Love is

In general Intimacy is a connection built on a mutual respect based on understanding of each other's needs and wants. Within the connection the relationship of intimacy maybe an interpersonal or a close relationship. Interpersonal intimacy is a bond that is relatable to common interest, know feelings and association with other people. Close intimacy relationships are drawn from the connections one experiences with interpersonal relationships through on going attachment built on love , sexual attraction, and even an experience of loss, gain, injury, or death. My initial reaction to the term intimacy is sexual with a opposite girlfriend or boyfriend partner.

After thoroughly reading the chapters within a text titled Close Encounters I found that intimacy does not only refer to sex. However, intimacy is based on feelings of emotional connection and closeness adapt from interpersonal and close relationships. Intimacy is the "warm" part of love". The warm part of love is a detachable side to the Love Triangle 1 being Intimacy, secondly passion and 3 commitment. Amongst the three intimacy is the most foundational. For example friendship love is emerged from commitment and intimacy. We may find friendship love mostly with family members, support systems, and close friends who consider each other close friends more than lovers of romantic love. In Close Encounters Sternberg theories of intimacy described the importance between latent and manifest intimacy. When there is internal feelings of closeness and interpersonal warmth which are not closely observable by others it's called latent intimacy. On the other hand Manifest Intimacy refers to how people communication affection and closeness to someone such as disclosing intimate feelings or spending extra time together.
